Thinking about Pepper Potts, I can only imagine what she’s going through now that Tony Stark is dead. The love of her life died doing what he did best – saving the world.
With Iron Man having been the face of the MCU for a decade, how are the rest of the fictional superheroes going to continue without him? Watching Potts’ relationship with Stark develop over the years was one of the most heartwarming stories in all of Marvel franchise, considering the Iron Man had first been introduced to us as someone who steered clear of commitment. Anyway, more on Tony Stark’s character arch some other day.
You do know that the actress who portrays Miss Potts, who’s now Mrs. Stark, is Gwyneth Paltrow, right? She has been in all three Iron Man installments as well as The Avengers and its sequels.
She has also been in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but until recently, she didn’t know that her character had been chosen to make an appearance in the superhero film! We can’t recall seeing her in the film either but that’s because it’s been a while since the movie came out.
The 46-year-old recently appeared on Netflix’s The Chef Show, a series by Jon Favreau who excellently portrays Happy Hogan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Naturally, the two have crossed paths in the MCU, but it seemed to slip Paltrow’s mind.
A Bemused Gwyneth
During the show, Favreau mentioned the MCU set and how they once filmed together, only to be met with a bemused Gwyneth whose expression admitted that she had no idea what he was talking about. To loop her in, Favreau continued, reminding her that they were on Spider-Man.
Thinking that it was her counterpart who had got it wrong, she quickly corrected him that it wasn’t Spider-Man but The Avengers. However, Favreau had his facts straight, reminding her of a time when they had Tom Holland (who plays Spider-Man) on set, filming a scene where both he and Gwyneth leave together to attend a press conference.
The Confusing MCU
With the truth dawning on her, the actress appeared, quite frankly, shocked, exclaiming that she didn’t know that they were filming for Spider-Man. We can’t blame her though. The MCU can be quite confusing if you lose your concentration for even a second!
The Russo brothers also admitted to shooting scenes that would ultimately end up in different movies, so we get it that the actors and actresses can get a bit confused. Take Chris Hemsworth for example. The Australian actor plays Thor in the MCU, and after filming Avengers: Infinity War, he had no idea whether his character lived or died. As I said, the MCU can be pretty confusing.
Now that we know that Pepper Potts was in Homecoming, should we expect her in Far from Home? One thing’s for sure, she would have a positive impact on Spider-Man, now that the young lad has just lost his mentor (her husband, Tony Stark). However, it is very likely that we may not even see her in the film, as much of the events happen in Europe, while she’ll probably be back in New York.
