Sade Baze, mother of one of the victims of recent Texas high school shooting which killed 10 people, says that she keeps looking at the front door of her house hoping that her daughter would walk through it, but, unfortunately, 16-year-old Shana Fisher was one of the 10 students gunned down on Friday.
The teenage shooter admitted that he only killed people he didn’t like and spared those who had been nice to him in school. Baze says that her daughter became the shooter’s target after she refused to go out on a date with him last week. The 16-year-old was eventually forced to pay for the rejection with her life.
Incident Happened Early in the Morning
Last Friday, a Texas teenage student walked into his high school with a revolver and a shotgun and gunned down 10 innocent people and injured 10 more. In a probable cause affidavit, the shooter admitted to sparing the lives of those he liked while targeting everyone else.
Police says that the 17-year-old suspect Dimitrios Pagourtzis has been cooperating with the authorities ever since the tragic incident. However, Mark Henry, Country Magistrate for Galveston County, has denied appeal for teenager’s bail due to serious charges of committing capital murder and assaulting a public servant.
It was still fairly early in the morning when sounds of gunfire erupted across the classrooms in Santa Fe High School, which is situated 20 miles outside Galveston, Texas. According to the official report, the shooting incident occurred after 7:30 a.m. as students settled in their classrooms for the first period.
More Explosives Found
Suspected shooter Pagourtzis used a .38 revolver to kill his targets which included 9 innocent students and one teacher. The gun used for the mass shooting was legally owned by the suspect’s father, according to Governor Greg Abbott’s statement. After capturing the shooter, authorities also discovered other explosives near the school including pressure cooker and pipe bombs.
None of the explosive devices planted around the school was functional; the pressure cooker recovered from the area contained nails and an alarm clock but didn’t contain any dangerous or explosive substance. Another student from the high school who is suspected for being an accomplice in the shooting has also been detained for questioning.
After the authorities discovered more suspicious items inside the school and its vicinity, a public announcement was issued in the city of 13,000 residents that if anyone spots a suspicious or strange object, they are encouraged to call 911 before inspecting it on their own.
Sources from the law enforcement agency also revealed that the authorities were searching for a trailer where the shooting suspect and his accomplice had allegedly assembled the explosives.
22 Shootings in less than one Year!
Since the beginning of 2018, there have been 22 mass shooting incidents in America including the latest Santa Fe shooting which was the third incident in a single week where an armed shooter was caught on school campus. Witnesses of the latest shooting incident said that they saw children screaming and running out of the high school campus after the sound of gunfire echoed in the surrounding neighborhood.
One of the students named Daymon Rabon, who was present in the high school at the of incident, said that his arts class had just started when he suddenly heard a loud sound next door. At first it seemed like something heavy had fallen on the ground or the door had been banged shut but soon three more bangs followed along with students’ screams.
When Rabon saw the shooter emerge from the adjacent classroom with a gun in his hand, he could not believe his eyes. The teacher shut the classroom door and asked students to help barricade the entrance to prevent the shooter from entering.
President Donald Trump also issued a statement addressing the unfortunate incident. He said that the news had deeply saddened him and it is about time that the government takes action against the mass shooting incidents which have become extremely common in the United States. Federal facilities around the country were asked to lower the US flags to honor those who were killed in the horrific attack.
