Guess who are just about to move to Martha’s Vineyard? The former first family. And yes, you heard that right. They may just be tired of D.C. Or are they? All the same, they’re in the market for a new house.
If the stars align for them and the deal pulls through, the Obamas could be the Massachusetts island’s newest inhabitants, moving into the home that is currently owned by Wyc Grousbeck. Of course, you know or have heard of the Bolton Celtics owner, haven’t you?
As Spacious as You’d Like
The beachfront estate is as spacious as you’d like given that it is a property spanning across 29 acres, and was listed for $14.85 million. However, word on the street is that the Obamas managed to charm their way into a price cut, and they’ll now purchase the estate at a discounted price. Knowing the former POTUS and FLOTUS, would you be surprised?
The fact that they had rented the property out for the summer must have handed them the perfect bargaining chip, and these two aren’t known for failing to achieve what they set out to. They must have loved the private beaches along Edgartown’s Great Pond, and you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who wouldn’t be drawn to them.
Just so you know, this wasn’t the first summer that the couple has spent at the island. While President Obama was in office, he and his wife spent all but one of his presidential summers at Martha’s Vineyard, and specifically at this Wyc Grousbeck residence.
The Obamas and Grousbeck have a long history, dating back to before Barack vied for the highest office in the land. And when he did do that, the entrepreneur generously contributed to Obama’s campaign, although public records show that he did the same for Mitt Romney. Being a businessman, whose world is affected by the political climate, you can blame him for not putting all his eggs in one basket, can you?
A Mammoth of a Building
Back to his estate, the main house is a mammoth of a building, 6,900 sq. feet to be precise. Within this space are seven bedrooms complete with nine baths, but that is hardly it. There’s a living room boasting a vaulted ceiling, a circular dining room whose walls are lined with windows, a fieldstone fireplace, and if you’re already impressed, wait for the master suite.
The room comes embellished with its own fireplace for whenever the couple needs that extra warmth, and if they choose to watch the waves, the private sundeck allows them to do just that. And when has an oceanic view ever been unpleasant? And don’t think about a hurricane here.
The rest of the property features a two-car garage, a pool, and a garden to complete its look. It is also very big on privacy, with the winding driveway leading up to the residence being almost half a mile long.
For a family that has been living in the public domain for as long as the Obamas have, they would certainly enjoy a heightened sense of privacy. Who can blame them?
Let’s just hope that the deal goes through and that by later this month, the former first family will be proud owners of a prime beachside estate.
