The justice system in the modern time we live in, has seen some of the most questionable circumstances. It seems like no matter how much justice is served, things can still remain quite unfair. If you remember, a man that allegedly raped a Stanford student was released three months early from his supposed sentence of only six months! You can just imagine how much the victims from such cases might feel when seeing how can people get away with such thing.
How To Get Away With Murder In Real Life?
Former junior footballer Shaun Woodburn who was 30 years of age, was brutally murdered outside an Edinburgh pub on Hogmanay while he was peacefully celebrating the New Year. His killer, who’s unnamed, didn’t show any sign of pity for murdering Shaun in a way wherein he was kicking Shaun’s head as if it were a football ball. Shaun was brought to the nearest hospital but doctors couldn’t save his life.

His alleged killer was luckily found and taken in by the authorities. He was identified to be a very young teenager. We are not sure if his age was a huge key factor because judges decided to just give him a jail sentence of four years. Although he claims he wasn’t the one who ended Shaun’s life, a witness claims he saw him committing the brutality that was done to Shaun.
Shaun’s father, Kevin Woodburn, was saddened by the court’s decision saying the murderer’s prison sentence was “pitiful”. By the time the murderer turns 20, he will be set free and will be able to get back to his normal life and who knows if he might do such tragic crime again.
Apparently, the teen murderer was part of a gang who was assaulting random strangers during New Year’s Eve. Shaun’s death was a result of the brawl that happened outside Gladstone’s Bar and the murderer even admitted to assaulting five other people before the brawl happened. He wasn’t also going to school since he was kicked out prior to the events that happened.
Mohammed Zakariyah, 19, co-accused for this crime
The said teenage murderer was not the only one who was held on account for there was another guy who was apparently co-accused. Mohammed Zakariyah, a 19-year-old guy, was not sentenced to prison time whatsoever for he was only ordered to do 240 hours of unpaid work. This was a very unfair punishment for someone who pleaded guilty to two assaults and a breach of the peace during the brawl.
Kevin, Shaun’s father, said that Shaun was a very gentle and nice boy. He never got himself in any kind of trouble and was headed for a bright future. Kevin could not understand how a group of young boys who were proven to have spread terror on New Year’s Eve, to be given such understanding and leeway by the court.

However, Kevin is not giving up without a fight. He has sought out for a meeting with Judge Lady Stacey in order to discuss the sentences given to the young criminals. Kevin has accepted the fact that his son is dead and gone but he will never accept the killer getting away with it. You can just imagine how much off guard Shaun’s relatives were caught when the judge announced a seemingly unfair sentence in court.
Shaun had a daughter and she will now sadly grow up without a father by her side. We wonder if these people who were involved in the crime feel just a little bit guilty… We mean, they must feel sad or pity for the family members who will carry the death of Shaun throughout the rest of their lives, right?
Do they realize that what they were spreading terror on the night of New Year’s Eve a lot of normal, ordinary people were scarred for life? We hope the people of the criminal justice system are doing their jobs rightfully and respectively. We would hate to hear that the justice system can be manipulated with a simple “generous offer”.
